Mark making of John Tilling

John Tilling's exhibition is a collection of personal works depicting abstract snapshots of our everyday lives, using narratives that include enviromental, physical and social situations. His unique style portrays a vast array of topics, incorporating a surreal and often whimsical approach, sometimes with an anthropromorphic twist.

John Tilling was born in England in 1966 and trained as a carpenter and joiner but has produced art throughout his working life. After becoming a permanent resident in 1992 he began to pursue a career in art, design and manufacturing. Starting in amateur theatre set building and after a short time at Unitec art and design school, he was offered an opportunity to work in the art department of the film and television industry, also branching off in to some graphic design and interior themed designs. In 2007 he revisited Unitec and graduated in 2010 with a degree in product design. John now resides in Hamilton and is currently focusing more on his drawing and painting work.
