Originally from Raglan but now residing in Auckland, contemporary artist Sam Mathers captures his every day life and travel experiences in his bold, quirky paintings and includes marks, lines and text, some recognisable others odd and interesting.
Sam has just participated in the Whittaker’s Big Egg Hunt NZ, a fundraiser for Starship Hospital. His entry ‘Big Birds’ documented facts and history of the Ostrich and the now extinct Elephant bird and Moa. His bright colour palette contrasted with bold black and white figures, which tie facts, humorous drawings, phrases from history books and his own quirky language together.
Opening Friday 16 May at 5.30pm Saturday and Sunday 17 and 18 May 2-4pm
