Colouring In is a series of leather gang patches stitched onto clothing that identify otherwise banal or staid groups within society and in some cases - rather pithily - ‘ nail their colours ’.
Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, in Gisborne on the East Coast, the artist observed the local presence and impact of the two large ‘ethnic gangs’ of N.Z - Mongrel Mob and Black Power.
Over time it has become apparent that these collectives are in reaction to the impact and force of far larger and insidious groups - or gangs - within the culture.
The exhibition will show the actual patches and available to order will be full-size photographic prints - A1 - of the works - at $100 each.
